National Capital Commission

The National Capital Commission (NCC) is a Crown corporation of the Government of Canada, whose goal is to ensure that Canada’s Capital Region is a source of national pride and significance.

Collaborating with various NCC staff and divisions, our work includes public art and event installations, wayfinding systems, promotions and signage, which can be seen during annual events including Winterlude and Canada Day.

PARK PICTOGRAM SYSTEMAfter the development of several sets of pictograms by various designers over the years, the NCC looked to us to thoroughly evaluate and redesign the NCC’s entire park pictogram system. The focus was to create a new system that was highly recognizable, consistent in style and colour, and consistent in the depiction and placement of elements from sign to sign. It was also important to keep the pictograms in line with internationally-recognized symbols.

CAPITALE WINTERLUDE PHOTO FRAMEWith the vast amount of people from all over Canada and the rest of world visiting the Rideau Canal during Winterlude, this project was conceived to encourage people to take photos and promote Canada’s Capital Region via social media outlets. Working with NCC staff, we were responsible for the design of the frame, for developing the necessary drawings and specifications for fabricators and installation crews, and for providing project management throughout the entire process. Following its successful launch at Winterlude, the frame is intended to be adapted for solid ground and used for other events, such as Canada Day.

EVENT BANNERS & SIGNAGEWith annual festivals and events, such as Winterlude and Canada Day, the NCC often requires the design and specification of banners and signage in and around the Capital Region. In most instances, we are responsible for both the design and specifications, but also overseeing production and installation.
